Falling for These Cocktails
Here in the ‘burbs of Philadelphia, we are having more and more crisp evenings which calls for crisp autumnal sips.
The backyard always provides garden-to-glass inspiration. The latest harvest includes an abundance of pears and elderberries. We have more pears than we know what to do with and the elderberries have been frozen for the purpose of making small batch elderberry syrup. Apples will be ready in a week or two so there’s more to come!
Here are a few cocktails we’ve been sipping.

Pear Vanilla Rum Sour
2 oz white rum
1 oz lemon juice
1 oz pear-vanilla syrup
sliced pear or lemon for garnish
combine in shaker with ice, shake, strain into coupe glass and garnish with pear or lemon slice.
Pear-Vanilla Syrup
2 pears diced
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
combine ingredients in small sauce pan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stir to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat and allow to cool for about 10 minutes. Strain and store in fridge for 2-3 weeks.

Autumnal Gold Rush
2 oz cinnamon whiskey
3/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz honey syrup
lemon twist garnish
Add whiskey, honey syrup, and lemon juice to a shaker with ice and shake.
Strain into a rocks glass over large ice cube and garnish.

Pear Cider Margarita
2 oz tequila
1 oz triple sec
2 oz pear cider
1 oz lime juice
cinnamon sugar rim
Combine all ingredients in a glass and stir. Fill glass with ice.

Elderberry Spritz
2 oz elderberry syrup
2 oz lemonade
club soda
Add syrup and lemonade over ice. Top with club soda.
